iPhone 8 or higher Call troubleshooting

If you are having issues with your phone there are a few things you can try:

  1. To power the phone off completely, quickly press the VOL UP then VOL DN then press and hold the power button until the phone shuts off.  Do not swipe to turn off.  This will do a complete shutdown.  Then press  the power button to turn back on the phone.  Best practice is to normally power down (swipe to power off not the method above) every night.
  2. The next thing they are going to look for is the iOS version. Go into SETTINGS>GENERAL>ABOUT and you will see your “Version” 15.4.1 is the latest as of 04/25/22.  If you don’t have that version, go into SETTINGS>GENERAL>SOFTWARE UPDATE and install the latest version.
  3. If after doing all of this you still have issues is to take the battery case off if you are using one and try a regular case or no case.  A few users experienced call drops while having this case on and after removal the problem resolved itself.  If this works, get a simple protective case instead.
  4. The final thing to try is to go into SETTINGS>CELLULAR and turn on “Wi-Fi Calling” to see if this helps.
  5. If NONE of the above helps, then you need to backup the phone with iTunes.  Instructions HERE. Please note number 5 and make the password “password” (no quotes).  After you backup the phone you will have to try one more thing to make sure it is not an app causing the issues with the phone. Proceed to step 6.
  6. Now that you have a full backup of the phone it is time to format the phone.  Go to SETTINGS>GENERAL>RESET and choose “Erase All Content and Settings”.  When complete setup the phone as a new phone and make some test calls and see how it performs.  If you still have the same issue then its time to visit Verizon. If it performs well, then it is time to restore your backup.
  7. Plug the phone into the computer and then iTunes will automatically ask you if you want to restore but if you need some more help click HERE.
  8. If after the restore the problem returns, then there is an app or something you downloaded causing the issue and you will need to remove apps one by one or go back to step 6 and then just load your email and keep the phone clean.
